Springtime Brings Happiness

It’s so nice to get outside and walk now that it’s not freezing outside.  I’m all for healthy living, and staying active, as long as it’s warm outside… when it’s too cold outside all good intentions – stay just that, intentions without actions.  Maybe someday I’ll get to the point of going for a run in any weather.

Last night was the first time this year that my husband and our two boys went for a walk.  It was a little on the cool side, but it wasn’t windy and it felt good to finally walk on a dry cement of the park path and feel “spring”.  All of us walked around the park a couple of times while the kids ran slightly ahead.  We agreed to do more outside activities with the kids this year.  Taking 1 hour walks and getting bikes for all of us to go on longer bike rides is at the top of the list.

We only made it to 30 minutes before it got dark and had to go back to the car.  By the end of this walk our seven-and-a-half year old Lukas kept saying how he wants to walk like this more often and how nice it was.  He was walking closer to us and only occasionally running along with his 6 year old brother Nick.   Nick was all about independence.  His only concern was to be able to see us and know we’re still there.  Both were very happy with our family walk, and my heart was filled with joy because of it.

It’s so nice when your children are happy about something that doesn’t involve electronics or toys.  Not only was the walk good for our health but it shows by example a healthy lifestyle for them to follow when they grow up.

I encourage all of you reading this to make the time to go outside and enjoy the little things in life.  Do the things that make your life better and set you and your family onto the right path to a happier and healthier future.
